North Ameribbean, a Smorgasbord

We went south to the capital city to get a bunch of paperwork done and to start others as well as celebrate a wedding this past week. I had so many things to blog about while we were away but did not have my laptop with me. However, now that I am back at home and staring at this screen, I remember nothing that I was all excited to write about. So, while waiting for my brain to get back in gear, I will post some photos instead.

Santo Domingo,

a mecca of American Fast Food chains….we did not visit all of them, just some. Unlike Peru, eating at fast food chain restaurants here is much more affordable than at local restaurants. I discovered Sara Lee’s pecan pie sold at KFC and that was my addiction the entire time we were there. My excuse would be that I was celebrating Canadian Thanksgiving all week long, if anyone should ask. I had a BigMac, shared half a frosty with my husband, had some pecan pies, Wendy’s chili and rice, and KFC with coleslaw. A smorgasbord of every unhealthy food in a span of 5 days. It is now back to rice and beans until we have to go back down south later this week to pick up our resident visas and Dominican ID’s.

Have a peek at the pics and enjoy!

Apparently Christmas commercialism comes early to the DR, just like in North America. Santa and the elves, along with angels, reindeer and colourfully decorated Christmas trees were in every store. However, I caught sight of these and had to seriously wonder about the people who made them. There is Santa, either with his back out or actually boogying to some rhythm and then there is…..Strawberry Shortcake when she finally becomes a grandma? You tell me what you all think!

Santa with his back out? Or attempting to dance?
Santa with his back out? Or attempting to dance?
Strawberry Shortcake as a grandma....
Strawberry Shortcake as a grandma….

  1. OK, so first off, it’s just cruel to post a picture of a Frosty like that. šŸ˜‰
Second, I definitely am going with you on the “Strawberry Shortcake as a grandma” theory. It’s the most plausible, pues.
Glad you were able to relax and do paperwork, too! AND eat pecan pie! You have to celebrate Thanksgiving some way, right? Hugs from the land of chicken and rice and people who are proud of chicken + rice. šŸ™‚

    1. You don’t have to tell me about the chicken and rice. I hear about the lack of huacatay and aji amarillo all the time by someone who thinks that Peruvian food is the best in the world…something I beg to differ as Malaysian and Thai food beats everything else in the world except for moussaka. šŸ™‚
Yeah, I wanted people to be able to “taste” the frosty and yes, I was being cruel. šŸ™‚
